Welcome to Wokingham Area Housing Society
Wokingham Area Housing Society’s objective is the relief of those in need, by providing affordable housing and services for the public benefit within the community of Wokingham Borough, an area of high rents and expensive property prices.
More affordable housing will enable local people and families to be close to their support networks, whilst remaining an integral part of the community.
It will also support those in lower-income roles, enabling them to live close to the communities they support, thus promoting the relief of unemployment and poverty.
WAHS is run by volunteers, who continue the vision set by the Society’s founders, which led to the first bungalows at Warren Close in Finchampstead being built in the 1950s, with a gift of land from the local Vaughan Morgan family.
In collaboration with a housing association and an HCA grant, WAHS redeveloped the facility, which re-opened in the summer of 2016, providing an increased capacity of 24 one-bedroomed, purpose-built flats for affordable rental.
The Society continues to seek suitable land for similar development, which WAHS will bring into use for social and affordable housing, using its own funds, skills, and associations, together with available grants and co-funding arrangements.
